The recipients of the Becom-ing Every Thing You Are      (BEYA)STEM Scholarship were recognized at the February Marlboro County Board of Education meeting.

The scholarship allows for the county’s juniors and seniors to attend an annual three-day BEYA STEM Conference in Washington, D.C on Feb. 13-15 due to a partnership with Marlboro Community Center, Bennettsville natives, and Eastside High alumni Brigadier General Velma Richardson and Muriel Sanders. Recipients of the scholarships are Hailey Grice, Wesley Murray, and Jordan Ray. The goal of the BEYA Conference is to create connections between students, educators and STEM professionals while facilitating partnerships with individuals and their local STEM resources. The board of directors of Marlboro Community Center is a group of individuals with an interest in preserving the history of the old Marlboro School as well as offering a variety of educational, cultural, personal and professional enrichment, and other community-focused programming for the benefit of citizens in Marlboro County and surrounding areas.
