MCSD Spelling Bee Winners

On Thursday, January 19, 2017 the Marlboro County School District held its annual Spelling Bee.  Students in fifth grade through eighth grade from schools across the district competed for the $100 grand prize.  The participants were extremely competitive and went through a total of 68 rounds before fifth grade Logan Pancallo from Wallace Elementary Middle School was declared the winner.  Other winners were Eunie Huang, seventh grader from Marlboro School of Discovery – 2nd Place, Jerry Jenkins, eighth grader from Marlboro School of Discovery - 3rd Place, and Dareon Stanton, sixth grader from Clio Elementary Middle School - 4th Place.

In keeping with tradition, the Spelling Bee Master of Ceremonies was the District’s Teacher-of-the-Year, Linda Cardenas.  The judges were Vanessa Pearson, Angela Lisenby, Gregg Steele and 12th Grader Jacob Evers.  Five years ago, Jacob Evers represented the district in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  The winners’ cash prizes were sponsored by the Jennings Law Firm, Sully Blair of State Farm and Representative Patricia Henegan.
